Wising your family a speedy and safe recovery and comfort going forward. I’m sure your parents do not regret one second of that big trip! I know my parents would tell me to go to Vegas! (Not Vegas specifically since they are baptist evangelicals lol!) but they would want me to not waste the planning, expense and vacation time already set aside. One way to look at it is, you need to get really energized and ready for when you do get to be with and help them. Who knows what the future holds and I hope it is all good from here , but take time to recharge yourself too and be ready for this next chapter in your family’s journey:) 🙏

Oh man I am SO sorry. This is heavy, heavy stuff, you're right. The prognosis sounds really promising though, that's good news. You never asked for advice, but here's my unsolicited take. You may have challenging times ahead. Our aging parents do head toward the inevitable. There's nothing to stop that. There will be a time when sheer sorrow is the dish of the week, month, or full-on year. So right now, while he's still doing alright...breathing, laughing, loving life...please do the same. It may sound frivolous, but life is meant to be frivolous because life is often so fucking shitty too. You'll be there for him and your mom soon enough. You'll play your important role. Rest, have a blast, you do you for now so that you're ready to step in and step up when the time comes. In the meantime, I wish your dad the speediest of recoveries (and I wish your heavy heart the same).
